COLUMBUS, OH - The Columbus Chapter of The National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame hosted the 60th annual Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet virtually on April 19, 2021. Click here to watch a replay of the banquet.
Awards were given to the top high school football scholar-athletes in the central Ohio area. 14 high school scholar-athletes were presented with John H. McConnell and Worthington Industries Foundation Scholarships to further their educations. Peter Pedrozo from Westerville South High School was recognized with the Maggied-Romanoff Award as the most outstanding scholar-athlete of the group.
Ohio High School Coaches of the Year Wade Bartholomew (Bloom-Carroll), Bryan Johnson (Westerville North) and Clarence Daniels (Columbus Africentric Early College) were also honored for their achievements this season.
Due to COVID-19’s effect on the college football season, recognition for college student-athletes was put on hold this year. That recognition will resume in 2022, along with the annual Ohio Gold Award, the Larry Larson High School Coaches Award, the Tyson Gentry Courage Award and the Distinguished Media Award.
“While the pandemic prevented us from gathering in person this year, we were thrilled to honor this outstanding group of high school football student-athletes in a virtual manner,” said Mac Lawless, president of the Columbus Chapter. “We are honored to present these deserving young men with scholarships to help as they further their educations at the college level. Thank you to our Board for their work and flexibility this year to make this a special evening for our honorees, as well as our sponsors who help make these scholarships a reality.”
